Well, I don't have much to say about this product at all.  I used it on C's freshly washed hair as a leave in and also for styling.  This basically did nothing at all for C's 3C type hair   : /
Other than the scent (and the cute label), I have to say I don't care for this product and we won't likely be purchasing this in the future.
One thing that I did, which made this product a little better, was added to it.  I used about 1/4 of a bottle so I filled the empty space with a few squirts of Kinky Curly Knot Today and a few drops of Curls Kikinut Oil.  That helped a enough that we will be able to use the rest of the bottle.  Not every product will work for every person, you might get great results with this product- this is not a 'hate' review against the product or the company itself!

*To be fair,  a lot of products work better when you use the entire line or at least 2 so they can work together.  And if you've actually been reading our blog, you know that getting and keeping C's hair is a HUGE struggle for us!  I also purchased the Refreshing Leave-In Moisturizer, so look for that review to come soon as well as possibly a follow up for the Miracle Kink Cream!  :)

Curls Passion Fruit Curl Control Paste Review

Price-  $7.99 for a 4oz tub at Target

Product Claim-  Smooth out and slick down unruly edges, tame frizzy, out of control curls, and add amazing sheen all in one step!  Formulated with pure goodness, pure Passion Fruit Oil, Shea Butter and Mango Seed Butter, Passion Fruit Curl Control Paste is the go to product for curlies demanding perfectly coiffed curls.

Directions-  Use this super sculpting, incredible sheen enhancing pomade on wet or dry hair to create perfectly sculpted curls and to smooth down rough and unruly edges.

I really like pomades and I never heard of this particular one until I found it at Target.  Since it's from Curls and I like the rest of their products that I've tried, I decided I'd give it a try.

As far as smoothing down C's edges, this product did pretty good.  I expect products to do what they say they are supposed to, but I also think I expect a little too much at times.
This pomade made C's hair look sleek and neat, it didn't leave it crunchy or flaky.  I really liked it for C's crown area because all the tiny baby hairs stayed down longer than they do with most other products.  This is very light but a little goes a long way.  It dissolves quickly and doesn't feel sticky.

When it comes to sculpted curls, well, C's hair needs a little more to give her the definition I like.  It didn't do bad, it's just not my favorite for defining curls.  It did give the sheen it promised, so that's a plus.

This product gives a light but strong hold that lasts all day.  C's hair did soak it up though, so I'm not sure I like it for cornrows.  After a day, all her baby hairs and hairs inside each braid were sticking up.
Overall, I'm pleased with this and I will definitely buy it again.

Kinky Curly Curling Custard Review

Price-  $16.99 for an 8oz tub at Target
Consistency-  Somewhat runny, normal hair gel feel
Scent-  Much like the Kinky Curly Knot Today, a little fruity- very pleasant
Ingredients-   Botanical infusion of water, Horsetail, Chamomile, Nettle and Marshmallow Root, Organic Aloe Vera juice, Agave Nectar Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Pectic, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate and Natural Fragrance

Product Claim-  Curling Custard gives moisture and curl definition, hold and brilliant shiny hair all in one product!
It reduces bulk, defines & elongates your curls helping them to 'hang' better. Curling Custard will bring out the natural curl or wave pattern you never knew you had!
It is an advanced botanical formula made with ALL NATURAL ingredients that nourish and strengthen the hair. For best results apply Curling Custard to soaking wet, freshly washed hair. For very kinky and tightly coiled hair use Knot Today as a leave-in conditioner then apply Curling Custard to soaking wet hair in small sections. Smooth each section with fingers from root to tip.

This gel comes with a sealed lit that you have to cut to open.  I like that, because you can be sure no one got into the tub and 'sampled' it before you buy it!

We washed and detangled C's hair and divided it into several small sections.  I used lots of Kinky Curly Knot Today and combed it through each section.  I added lots of Curling Custard and combed it through.

I have to say, I was half expecting this gel to leave C's hair sticky feeling.  It really looks like it would be sticky, but it isn't at all.  I also expected crunchy hair and flaking, which I didn't see any of so that's a big plus!

C's hair looked really shiny (almost too shiny) when I finished putting the gel in.  I left her hair down to get the full results. 

I didn't really notice much elongation or less bulge, and I'm fine with that.  This gave C's hair great definition, I just love it!  It says that a little goes a long way, but I find myself having to use a lot of it to get the results I want.  I'm ok with that too- even though it isn't going to last us long, it makes C's hair look and feel amazing, and that's all that matters!  This is what I've been looking for!  :)

We will be buying this again, along with Knot Today and the Spiral Spritz.  In fact, I've already started stocking up!...

Kinky Curly Knot Today Review

Price-  $11.99 for an 8oz bottle at Target

Consistency-  Creamy and light

Scent-  Fruity, it's kind of hard to describe. C thinks it smells like candy  :)

Uses-  Leave-in conditioner/detangler

Ingredients-  Organic Mango fruit extract, Organic Slippery Elm, Organic Marshmallow Root, Organic Lemongrass, Cetyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol and Natural Fragrance. 

This is one product I have been wanting to try for very long time but couldn't find it, and I really hate to order by mail.  I finally found it at a Target store near me and threw it right in my cart!

I CO washed C's hair with Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk Conditioner.  As always, me and C finger detangled her hair in the bath with lots of extra conditioner and used a wide tooth shower comb.  We let the conditioner sit in her hair while she finished her bath.

I divided C's hair into several small sections and added lots of the KCKT and combed it through her hair.  I really liked how it worked for C's hair!  It was very shiny and much easier to comb than usual.  I did notice that this product alone is not enough to keep her hair moisturized, so the 2nd time we also used Kinky Curly Curling Custard along with it (review coming soon) and that gave GREAT results!

We've been using this almost everyday as a detangler, and once a week as a leave-in after C's hair gets washed.  I must say, I LOVE the Kinky Curly products!  It's so much easier detangling C's hair with Knot Today- we will for sure continue buying these products!   :) 

Queen Helene Royal Curl Shaping Creme- Follow Up Review

A while back I tried Queen Helene Royal Curl Curl Shaping Creme on C's hair.  I still LOVE this product!  It's a must have for days when we leave C's hair down or have ponytails with free hair. 
I had a few requests for pictures to show how C's hair turns out when we use this, so here they are!  :)

Here's the back view.  Just look at all those luscious curls!!!  And yes, her hair is completely dry here.  The RCCSC gives C's curls tons of definition and leaves her hair soft and bouncy.  I use lots of this product each time and we haven't ever experienced flaky or crunchy hair.  It isn't greasy or sticky at all- just all around awesome!

Nothing has given C's hair more definition before.  Look at all the cute little ringlets!  :)
I decided I would really put the RCCSC gel to the test.  C had gym class this day plus she went outside for recess.  I think her curls held up really nice.  For a little girl running around playing all day and still have her hair looking like this at the end of the school day, her ponytails still looked great in my opinion!

And as a comparison...

This is how C's hair ends up looking once her hair soaks up whatever products we use.  This picture was taken last summer and we used EVCO and BB hair lotion.

Now that's a pretty big difference!  I have to say I'm amazed at this product.  I'm going to keep this RCCSC gel in the house, and I'm going to try it again this summer and do another follow up.  C's hair is even harder to keep moisturized during the summer, so we'll see how this gel holds up under the heat!  Stay tuned   :)

Curls Blissful Lenghts Kukinut Oil Elixir Review

Scent-  The scent is a little hard to describe, but it smells very nice- a little fruity

Consistency-  Oil (of course) but light, not greasy at all

Directions-  Apply directly to scalp to stimulate growth, on wet or dry to hair to strengthen and moisturize dry hair, or before heat processing to protect hair for over processing.

Ingredients-  Soybean Oil, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Coconut Oil, Vitis Vinifera Grape Extract, Silk Amino Acids, Shea Butter, Mango Seed Butter, Sweet Almond Oil Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Evening Primrose Oil, Vitamin E, Candelilla Wax, Fragrance 

YES!!!  C's hair loves this oil!  It's by far the best oil we've ever used.  I think we finally found our product line!  I bought a bottle of it, then we liked it so much I went and got 3 more, just to be sure we wouldn't run out any time soon :)

This oil leaves C's hair soft and moisturized without a greasy or heavy feel.  We use this everyday and never see any buildup.

I like all the Curls products- we're very well stocked up on them all!  They all work nice alone, but together they are amazing!  I had a half bottle of the Creme Brule and just to see what would happen, I mixed about 15 drops of this oil into it and shook it up real good.  That makes both products so much better!  I'm glad I tried that, I feel like a genius :) Haha!

I'm going to have to see if this oil really does help C's hair grow, so there will be a follow up on this.

Agadir Argan Oil

Price-  $22 for a 2.25 oz bottle at Kroger

Scent-  Pleasant smelling, almost floral

Product Claim-  Leaves hair shiny, smooth, luxurious and healthy.  Instantly penetrates, moisturizes and shines, corrects frizzies, conditions, humidity resistant.

Directions-  Apply small amount in palm of hands (more for longer or thicker hair), massage into damp hair.  Style.  May apply a few drops to finished style for added shine and protection.

Ingredients-  Cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone, MSDS, cyclomethicone, argania spinosa kernel oil (argan oil), caprylyl methicone, phenyl trimethicone, fragrance

I didn't really want to try this oil because it's basically all silicones.  I was surprised that is cost so much considering the ingredients, but I decided to try it anyway because someone recommended it to me.  I'm willing to try anything once!

I put this in C's hair after using Curls Curl Creme Brule while it was wet.  I also used this oil alone after wetting her hair.  This isn't too bad of a product, but I'm not sure if we'll be trying it again because I don't really think it's worth the money.  

Since there isn't much in a bottle, we used 2 full bottles and part of another (not all at once!)  One bottle lasted us about 3 weeks.  I wanted to give it a fair review, as I do with all products.  

This oil did seem to make C's hair look more moisturized, and it was fairly light.  It also made her hair feel nice and soft, and it didn't leave it looking too oily once her hair dried.
I didn't find this oil to be the best, it's just ok in my opinion.

Consistency:  Thin, somewhat runny

Scent:  I didn't really like the smell of it. It's a little hard to explain what it's like.  It's not a bad smell, just not flowery or fruity like a lot of conditioners we use.  The good thing is the smell didn't stay on her hair once it was rinsed out, so it was no big deal at all.

This isn't my favorite conditioner, but I like it.  I started using this as our after shampoo conditioner, but I didn't like it for that because it wasn't creamy and thick how I like.  I do finger detangling while the conditioner is in, so I like it to be very thick and creamy to help with slip and help coat the hair and leave it more moisturized. 

Now I use this instead of shampoo when I give C a CO-wash, which I think is the perfect use for it!

The ingredients aren't bad, so for $2.50 it couldn't be beat.  If I ever find it again any place, I would definitely buy it again.

Queen Helene Royal Curl Shaping Creme

I've been looking everywhere for a good curl defining/styling product.  I happened to find this at a BSS, and grabbed it.  I was sold after seeing the words "All Natural" on the label.

I'm not sure how to describe the scent, but it's very nice.  It has a clean smell to me which I like a lot.

Price:

I found this at a BSS for $6.50 for a 15oz. tub!  That is a great deal for a natural product that works!

After I wet C's hair and detangled it thoroughly, I divided her hair into several small sections and added the Royal Curl Creme as the instructions said.  Once I added the creme to all of the hair in each section, I gently scrunched the hair from the ends up.

When C's hair started to dry, I noticed a little bit of crunchy hair, but that went away once it was completely dry.  There was no flaking, crunchiness or build-up from this product and it left C's curls pretty defined and bouncy- more so than anything else we've tried! 

This is a must have product when C wears her hair down, and I also like to use it to smooth down her edges.  It helps make all the little fly-away/baby hairs that poke out in the middle of the day stick together and form actual curls.  I will definitely be buying this again!

Curls Lavish Curls Moisturizer Review

This smells so yummy!  It has a light peach scent which both me and C love.

Consistency:

Very light, almost exactly like water.  This is not greasy, oily, or sticky at all.

Description:

The product EVERY curly girl needs... a daily moisturizer to refresh, rehydrate, and reactivate her dry curls after a long nights rest... without shampooing!  Lavish Curls Moisturizer will give life back to dry and lifeless curls in a snap!  Use daily for best results.

Directions:

Apply Lavish Curls Moisturizer to wet or dry hair. DO NOT RINSE.  Follow up with your favorite Curls styling product.

We've been using this product along with the Curls Creme Brule and Curls Goddess Curls. 

I have to say, for the price and the ingredients, this is a pretty good deal!  I feel like C's hair likes these Curl products just as much as other things that are more expensive (and give about the same results), and I love the fact that I can go to Meijer anytime we need more and pick it up.  We don't have to go online to order it, pay extra and wait for it.

One thing I didn't care for about this product was the way it sprays out.  It comes out in a stream.  I was expecting a nice mist since this is a spritz, but it wasn't a big deal.  I couldn't find a spray cap to fit this bottle right, so I just poured the Lavish Curls into an extra spray bottle.  If you do this, make sure you label the spray bottle or use a different colored bottle than your regular water spray bottle.

I would say the Lavish Curls Moisturizer does a fairly good job at keeping C's hair moisturized.  It's not a miracle product and I'll still look for more things to try, but I like it.  Compared to other things we've used, this is one of the better ones.  I have a very hard time finding anything to keep C's hair moisturized, so I'm going to keep the Lavish Curls around the house until we find something better, along with the Creme Brule and the Goddess Curls.  As far as a daily moisturizing spritz, it's better than nothing.  I like having something I can spray in her styled hair daily.

I wasn't able to find this exact product on their website, but I'm assuming their Quenched Curls is about the same as this.  The ingredients are a little different though...

So I'm not going to say for sure that they will work the exact same way.  Also, the Quenched Curls costs $16 for an 8oz bottle, so the Lavish Curls is a better value- AND more convenient if your Meijer carries it! :)
Curls also has a shampoo and conditioner at Meijer, I still haven't decided if I will try them or not just because (in my opinion) shampoo is shampoo- as long as it's sulfate free, I'll use just about anything.  And as for the conditioner, we have plenty of good ones, so I think we need to use those up first.

Scent:
The scent is hard to explain.  I don't want to say it has an alcohol smell, but it does sort of remind me of some alcohol based gels.  It isn't a strong smell though, just not fruity or flowery.

Consistency:
Thick liquid, not sticky or greasy and doesn't leave C's hair feeling crunchy, flaky or greasy and doesn't leave any build-up.

I've used a little less than half a bottle of this, so I might come back with a different opinion later.
I have used this on C's hair along with the Curls Creme Brule and the Curls Lavish Curls Moisturizer on completely free hair and ponytails with free hair.
As I said, I might come back and do another review on this later, but as of now I'm not too impressed with this product.  I didn't notice any less frizz or any more definition.  Each time we've used this, I added generous amounts to C's hair.  I'm still going to keep using this, but I'm not sure I'll ever try it again once the bottle is empty.  I feel that this is a fair review considering we did go through almost half a bottle and got the same results each time, but I will keep using different amounts and using it with different products to see if I like it any better.  I did like the fact that all the products we used were from the same company, because a lot of times products will work better together when they are all from the same company than if you use a different product for moisture and styling.  But whatever works is what I'm going to do!

I have tried the entire Curls line available at Meijer except the shampoo.  To me shampoo doesn't really matter as long as it's sulfate free so I'm not sure if I'll try that or not.  We have about 8 bottles of sulfate free shampoos- each one gives us the same result, which is why you won't see many shampoo reviews here.  I have to say, the Curls line is not the best product out there, but it gives decent results for the price.  Since nothing else we've tried has been any better, this is our product line until we find something better :)

Curls- Curly Creme Brule Review

I don't usually bother to look at the hair products at most stores, but for some reason I decided to look when we were at Meijer.  The label caught my eye right away when I saw the word 'Curls', so I grabbed one of the bottles. 
The bottle of the Curl Creme Brule says that it's formulated with certified organic ingredients and has no sulfates, silicones, parabens, mineral oil or petrolatum, so I was sold.

*I wasn't able to find this product on the Curls website, so I'm not sure if it's available anywhere other than Meijer.

Scent:
This smells wonderful.  It reminds me a lot of Catwalk's Oatmeal And Honey conditioner.  In fact, I'd say they smell the exact same!  It smells a little like a sugar cookie or a white cake.

Consistency:
Creamy, thick but light and non-greasy.  This didn't leave C's hair flaky, crunchy or sticky and didn't leave any build-up.


When I use a product that promises curl definition and less frizz, I like to leave at least some of C's hair free so that I can see if it really does what it's supposed to do.
I deep conditioned C's hair the night before and added lots of leave-in conditioner plus lots of the Curl Creme Brule and Lavish Curls Moisturizer spritz.  I moisturized her hair the same way before I styled it.

Her hair isn't only dry- this was taken after a whole day of school, and she was running around in gym!

Umm... Yeah, I think her curls look great!  Her hair was MUCH more more moisturized and had lots less frizz than normal.  There's also lots more definition.

 We've used a full bottle of this and part of another one, so far so good! 

I decided I wanted to try the this on more of C's hair to see what it would look like. 

I used lots of the Creme Brule in each section of C's hair, and then I sprayed a good amount of the Lavish Curls Moisturizer spritz and rubbed it into her hair.  Here is what C's her hair looked like at the end of the day...

I was less impressed with the results this time.  It was snowing and C's hair got pretty wet by it, then she was wearing her hood too so that might have had something to do with it.  I will probably try it again.  Her hair was more moisturized than other things have made it, but it had lots of frizz and poorly defined curls.

As long as this Creme Brule keeps C's hair moisturized in styles and in small amounts of free hair, I'll be happy with it!  Basically, this isn't the best product so I'm still going to try other things, but it's no worse than anything else we've tried.  Since it's easy to find and has decent ingredients, I'll be keeping this around until something better comes around.

I'm going to do a review on the Lavish Curls Moisturizer spritz (tomorrow??)  I used it to freshen C's Valentines Day style before school and before bed, and we've been using it almost everyday along with the Creme Brule.  We also bought Goddess Curls defining gel to have a more completely partnered product line, so be sure to check back for that review as well!  :)

We actually tried this product about a year ago, and I just realized I never did a review! So here it is...

I purchased the 16oz. tub of the Island Mango Bee Hold Curly Butter.  I love the scent- it smells wonderful! 
I washed C's hair as soon as this came in the mail and put it into cornrows.
This is the first style we used the Curly Butter with.



When I put the Curly Butter in C's hair, it did feel nice and I thought this was going to be a product we always keep in the house.  Her hair looked pretty nice too- she didn't have any hairs poking out of her braids until the 2nd. day.  Once her hair was completely dry, it soaked up every bit of the Curly Butter.
I went and added more to each cornrow and her ends hoping that would keep some moisture, and that made it look nicer for a while.  The next morning, her ends were more moisturized than usual. 

*This is not meant to be a 'hate' review or to say anything bad about the Bee Mine company or anyone who uses and likes their products.  This is just my opinion of it and I always give an honest review!

This was the very first natural hair product we ever used so maybe my expectations were a little high after reading all the reviews about this Curly Butter.  We were also using the No Sulfur Growth Serum, so I figured that was good enough to use as an oil to seal in the moisture.  I made a post about that but I never followed up, but I'm going to do the review on that next.

C's hair had to come down after the usual 3 days, and by that time her hair was bone dry and very frizzy.
A lot of times this happens- I just can't keep her hair moisturized for the life of me!  But then once I take the cornrows or other style down, the hair inside is still moisturized and looks nice for a braid out.  That didn't happen with this.  None of the braid pattern was noticeable, so I had to restyle her hair.

The label does say that it does everything I'm looking for in a hair product...  Long lasting moisture with less frizz and more definition, so I kept using it for a couple days.  By the 3rd. day, C's hair showed no improvement and was just as dry as ever, so we moved on to another product.
Even though I didn't get the results I want and it doesn't say that you have to use anything else with it, I'm thinking about trying it again with the addition of the Bee Mine Daily Moisturizing Spritz and maybe one of the moisturizers and see if we have any better luck.

*This is the part where I messed up....
I heard about this product a while ago, but I never bothered to look up the ingredients or anything- I do that before I buy it (because I always forget by the time I get around to buying something!)
I planned on going to the BSS, running in and grabbing what I want so I could be in and out fast, so I decided I would look up the ingredients online before I went out shopping.  I first checked the Taliah Waajid website and searched this product.  No ingredients were listed anywhere!  So then I just searched for the ingredients on my own.  Here's what I found...

Ingredients:
Deionized Water, Shea Nut Oil, Green Tea & Sage Extract, Propylene, Shea Butter, Vitamin E Oil, Olive Oil, Cocoa Butter Oil, Herbal Moisturizers and Detanglers, Silk Protein, Balsam and Aloe Vera.

Not bad, so I decided I'd run in the beauty supply store and grab a bottle.
Later, after I already used this in C's hair, I was checking out the label and found the real ingredient list...


Ingredients:
Deionized Water (Aqua), Cetrimonium Bromide, Shea Nut Oil, Ceteareth-20, Shea Butter, Vitamin E, DMDM Hydantoin, Glycol-Vegetable Derived, Green Tea Extract (Camellia Sinensis), Sage Extract (Salvia Officinalis), MINERAL OIL D&C Yellow #5, Silk Protein (moisturizer and detangler), Aloe Vera (Barbadensis), Fragrance (Parfum)

I was mad at myself for not checking the ingredients on the bottle for myself, BUT... at this point we've tried so many products that are natural and supposed to be healthy and super moisturizing, and we still haven't found anything too spectacular.  C's hair is still very dry and soaks up every product even though we've tried changing her hair care routine several times and done everything I could think of, so I thought just maybe the Kinky, Wavy, Natural would still be a good product even if it isn't as beneficial health wise.  I know that Mineral Oil will not make you go instantly bald or anything like that- it's not the worst thing you could do to your hair, but there are better options.
Well, the next morning I was really kicking myself! 
C's hair grease days were resurrected!  Her hair was so dried out, and her ends felt like straw :(
On top of that, I had to CO wash C's hair because it was very greasy and weighed down.  Rinsing it with water wasn't enough, but at least I didn't have to use shampoo so I guess it could have been worse.
But I learned 2 lessons from this.  #1. ALWAYS check the ingredient label yourself before you buy something!  When searching on a search engine, you might find an ingredient list of a completely different product with a similar name.  Or, when reading reviews from other people who have used a product you want to try, they might simply have forgotten a few ingredients or maybe even left them out thinking they aren't an important thing to list!
#2.  Even if I haven't found the best product for us (which may or may not even exist!), it doesn't mean that it will never be found, and it doesn't mean that all the money I've spent is going for products that give the same results as some cheaper things- up until I tried this I've been thinking I'm wasting time and money buying natural products.  There might not be any 'miracle' product out there for C, and even though I don't see the results I want, her hair is healthier (even if it is dry) and I'm going to keep doing my best to try and find what works best for C's hair!  :)

Taliah Waajid Protective Mist Bodifier Review

How It's Used:

I've been looking for a good leave-in conditioner for C's hair for a while now, so when I saw this at a local beauty supply store, I decided to try it. 

The price was not bad and I love the scent!

I've been using this day and night as a leave in and for comb outs for almost 2 whole weeks on C's hair, and I have noticed a difference.  Her hair is softer and has been staying moisturized longer!  :) 

As I do with most products, I use an extra amount of this protective mist.  I put a little bit of the mist into our spray bottle so we can also use it as a moisturizer when her hair is up in a style.  I wet C's hair, divide it into several small sections and add the mist, then I do finger detangling and comb through with a wide tooth comb.  When I'm done combing each section I go back and add a little more mist. 

It comes in a spray bottle, but it's very thick and isn't easy to spray.  I just take the cap off and pour a little in my hands and rub it into C's hair. 

I have used a whole bottle of it, and I will be going to buy more tomorrow! 

This is a pic of C's hair just after I detangled it and added the Taliah Waajid protective mist bodifier.  I wasn't going to do a review until we tried it a second time, just because some products seem great at first but when you use them again, you don't like them as much.  At least that's the way it is for me.  I just really like this picture, and I'm loving C's length!  :)
The BMP makes her hair so shiny, and once it dries it's very soft and fluffy.  This product doesn't weigh her hair down or leave it sticky, flaky or crunchy at all. 
I still plan to try some other Taliah Waajid products as well as others, but this will definitely become one of our regular products.

We've used this all on it's own and also used it with Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie.  Both ways made C's hair look great, although I don't really like it used with the Smoothie. 
This product works fine for moisturizing on it's own right after a wash, but I still need to find a good partner product for it on other days.

Unrefined African Shea Butter

Although we use a LOT of hair products, I don't do many reviews.   The reason for it is because not many things impress me when it comes to moisturizing C's hair and I don't want to look like one of those people who 'hates' everything!  Also, I don't mean to degrade or deface any person and/or company when I do a review on a product I don't like.  What works for one may not work for another! :)

Description...
I came across a tub of Unrefined African Shea Butter at a local beauty supply store when we were shopping for some new barrettes and decided to try it.  It comes in solid form and is an off white/yellowish color.  Some forms of this may have a smell, but this particular Shea Butter was unscented.

How to use it...
Since this is in solid form, it has to be melted in order to use it.  When a solid natural oil is melted, it becomes liquid but will go back to solid form again when it cools.  This works out perfectly for us, because I don't have to worry about it spilling in our work station once we put things away.  It only takes about 30 seconds in the microwave to become soft/liquidy.

$5.99 for an 8oz. tub.

Of course the only ingredient is 100% Unrefined African Shea Butter.  I think this would probably last us 3-4 weeks, which is not too bad.  So far I have only used this for one style, which I did on C 4 days ago.  I'm very happy to say that C's hair has held up nice enough that she could wear it to school and out in public for 4 days without completely drying out!  Most styles only last 2-3 days with C so this is great! 

I did use quite a bit of this while styling C's hair.  I had banded her hair the night before to stretch out the curls and keep tangles to a minimum.  After I sprayed C's hair with our water & Africa's Best Herbal Oil mixture, I parted her hair off into 4 sections and applied a generous amount of the UASB to each section.  I also added more during braiding by rubbing it into each strand of each braid, and when I finished each braid I added yet another helping down the entire length of the braid.  I actually moisturize this way a lot, unless I'm in a hurry.
When I was finished with C's hair, it was very shinny and moisturized looking.  Her hair seemed a little weighed down with all the UASB we used, but I like that because it means C's hair hasn't soaked it all up yet and it will take a little time for it to be all soaked up.

OK, usually after the first day of a style C's hair still looks somewhat moisturized but has a little bit of hair sticking up in random places.  By day 2 she can still get away with going to school in the came style, but I'm already thinking about what I'm going to do with her hair next.  By day 3 (if I didn't take the style down on day 2), C's hair is very frizzy and since it's dried out, it looks very messy and absolutely has to come down!
With the UASB, I haven't seen much frizzing.  I have been re-moisturizing every morning and night (as I always do) and C's hair still looks like it could last another day or 2!  So I will definitely be buying more of this and might keep a stockpile!

The bad part...
So far my only complaint would be that we have already gone through almost half a tub of this.  This is actually fine with me because it's easy to get more since we can find it at the BSS and if it works it's worth it!  But the reason I call it a complaint it we just can't seem to go to the BSS without walking out with a bunch of new hair prettys! C has over $40 of unopened accessories and we have a whole dresser full of them!  BUT... we do have some things we accidentally got multiples of, so they just might be part of our next giveaway!!!  :)

I purchased this a few weeks ago and have already gone through an entire bottle.
This product is supposed to detangle, which I would have to say it does a fairly good job at doing.  However...  I had to use a lot of product for it to do anything for C's hair, even when it wasn't super tangled.
This did not help define C's curls at all.  By the time her hair dried and soaked the milk up, she was a big ball of frizzy tangles!
I've found that sometimes C's hair retains moisture and stays defined better if I use lots of extra product (whatever I might be using at the time) and I put her hair up in some sort of style.  So what I did was I used both the Styling Milk and the Curl Enhancing Smoothie, and I put C's hair into big box braids with some fall colored beads. 
I admit, most styles do not last longer than 2 or 3 days in C's hair because it is so dry and I have to do everything extra loose because of her sensitive scalp.  I was only able to leave the style in for a day this time!  The Shea Moisture products did nothing for moisture, and also the braid out was a nightmare.  No curl definition at all, and because her hair was so dry, it was also extremely tangled and hard to un-braid.

I would consider using this product just for detangling but I still need something else for definition and moisture... NOTHING seems to work on C's hair!  :*(

I wasn't expecting to find any quality products for C's hair at Walgreens, but I found myself in the hair products aisle so I decided to look anyway.
I saw a line of Shea Moisture Organic Coconut and Hibiscus products- the word 'organic' caught my eye!  I decided to try 2 of them... The Curl Enhancing Smoothie, and also the Curl & Style Hair Milk (review on that coming soon!)

*So far we have only used this twice so I might do a 2nd. review later, but I'm thinking this is something I might want to buy again!  I've been having such a struggle with finding a quality product for C's hair that I was ready to give up and go back to using whatever cheap things I could buy at Wal Mart or somewhere.  BUT since I found something organic that I don't have to buy online, I'm hoping I've found a way around that!  :)

Anyway, I used this on C's damp hair.  Whenever I try a new moisturizer or anything that is supposed to enhance curls, I like to leave C's hair down to put it to the ultimate test.

This isn't the best example, sorry!  We were at a fundraiser and I was too busy to stop and get pictures, but I got this one from my Aunt.
After a long day of running, jumping in bouncy houses, playing with farm animals, games and more C's hair still looked pretty good.  Her hair was big with lots of shrinkage, but I expect that and that's ok!
C's hair still had lots of definition, even though she had some frizzing going on which you can see here.  When I got an up close look, C's hair looked moisturized- that's all I can ask for!

Like I said, I might do another review later since we've only used this product twice, but so far I like it!

We went to Target today and I decided to find the Dove Nutritive Therapy system.  I knew that the ingredients would be less than perfect, but I was still planning to buy at least one of the Nutritive Therapy products.  Of course the shampoo was out because of all the sulfates.  Since I like Dove products so much for my own hair, I decided that I wasn't going to read the ingredients of the leave in smoothing cream- I was just going to buy it.  Well, when I got home I wished I would have checked the ingredients over a little!  This 'nurturing' oil has mineral oil and petrolatum in it-  I definitely can't use this for C's hair   :(

I was very disappointed because as I said, I really like Dove products for my own hair!  I don't even read the ingredients when a product is going to be used only for my hair because I actually need a shampoo with sulfates or my hair is too oily, and I don't use or need anything special for my hair so I pretty much could care less- unless it's Mineral Oil or Petrolatum.

Obviously there are more harmful ingredients than good!  I won't be making that mistake again!

Organix Moroccan Argan Oil

After a few days at the water park, C's hair was in serious need of recovery from all the chlorine! 
I already have some Organix Shampoo and Conditioner, so I used that when she got out of the water each night.  (I also did a deep condition) We stopped at Wal Mart this afternoon and I came across something we've never tried- Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil.  It was $6.50 (I believe)- the same price as the shampoo and conditioner, but the oil is only 3.3 oz so I almost didn't get it because we have so many other oils at home that we can use but I am always looking for something better!

I have only used this on C's hair once, so I might be doing another review later to give it a fair chance.  I really LOVE the smell of this oil!  It makes C's hair feel so soft and silky.  I used it last night, and this morning C's hair looked very well hydrated and still feels soft.  It also looks to me like there is less frizz in her hair than usual, which is  always good!  :)

So far, I really like this oil and we'll probably be buying it again! I might use it again tonight and heat it just a little bit to use as a hot oil!

This oil is pretty light, it didn't weigh C's hair down.  But then again, a lot of things that other people say are heavy aren't heavy at all on C's hair.  I like heavier products for hold, but I like a light oil.  If the oil is too heavy, C's hair looks and feels greasy so that's the main reason I like this argan oil.
